Give. Away.

To see if anyone is actually reading this thing, and to assure the reader of the fact that I am indeed a comment whore, I am having an art giveaway. Basically, comment for your chance to win original art.

Rules:

1. 1 comment = 1 entry. Comment on multiple posts for multiple entries (but only the first post on any entry counts). Doesn’t have to be this post. Comment on any post you wanna comment on.

2. Winner will be from a random drawing among all commenters during the month of November. Doesn’t matter when the post was. Comment must be received in November.

3. Comment must be a real comment, actually related to the content. “Nice post” doesn’t cut it. You don’t have to write a novel every time, but you have to make me think you give a shit. If I don’t delete the comment, it counts as an entry. If it gets booted, it didn’t count. My decision is final: My blog, my rules.

4. No cost, no fees, no shipping charges, no nothin’. Just me being nice to my readers.

5. Winner will be notified by email in early December, and will receive a little (~4×3 or so) painting, similar to the one below. I’ll likely pick out 3 or 4 of these little pieces and let the winner select their fave from those.

If this is fun, I might do it every month.

Go ahead, play now.

Turning Blue

1. Doing my part to pass along the shoot-themselves-and-each-other-in-the-foot-isms of the right: From Boing Boing, from Salon: Televangelist says: “A vote for Romney is a vote for Satan”:

He would influence people to seek out the Mormon faith… They would get sucked into those lies and they would eventually die and go to hell.

-Televangelist Bill Keller

Keep talkin’, wackos. Keep right on talkin’…

2. Congrats to Charlottesville City Council Dem winners David Brown, Holly Edwards, and Satyendra Huja. And congrats to all 5 candidates for a good, thoughtful race.

And congrats to Denise Lunsford for winning the Commonwealth’s Attorney race in Albemarle County. Good riddance to bad rubbish in that race.

Still too close to say for sure, but it looks like the Dems will retake the State Senate.

3. Ouch. Nationals star 3rd Baseman (and UVa alum) Ryan Zimmerman broke a bone in his wrist and will likely have surgery. But he’s expected back in plenty of time for next season.

4. Another Holman Lumberyard Photo. Northport, Alabama.

Filter

1. Ran 11 miles today. About 4 of which were on trails. Training for the Bear Creek 10M Trail Race in December.

2. There are 4 new fine art photos and 2 new portraits on the site.

3. Thanks to my awesome friend MA for the fun at the Live Arts gala last night! Much to see, drink, dance, eat, do, laugh. I only wish I’d had a camera!

4. Go look at the stunning photographs on the site of Ohio photographer Laura Larson (thanks to my friend Gray Dodson)

5. I’ve enabled the Akismet blog spam filter on here to hopefully catch a most of the several dozen spam comments that I get daily. (With thanks to Waldo and cvillenews.com for the tip). If for some reason you make a comment and it doesn’t show up within a day or so, let me know by email and I’ll look into it.

6. In other blog news, stay tuned. I am planning an art-giveaway contest here on the Travels and Rants Journal, and you could win totally free art!

7. Another Halloween picture. Chandra the Dancing Witch. Staunton Baja Bean.

Squeeze

1. Of course, the best thing about the internet is how easy it is to become obsessed about almost anything. Say, for instance, you decide that you have a deep-seeded need to hear Charlie Daniels’ “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” played on the accordion. Well, you can look on YouTube, where YT user robsturtz will serenade you, or you can look on Amazon and find “Squeeze This!” by Those Darn Accordions! (And don’t miss their version of the Grand Funk Railroad classic “We’re an Accordion Band”). We live in an amazing time.

2. The softball team went down in a blaze of disappointment last night, losing in the first round of the playoffs to possibly the most obnoxious and unsportsmanlike team we’ve ever played. It left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. People like that shouldn’t be allowed to play lower-level co-rec softball.

3. Finally got around to putting this new piece up on the website: “Morning Finds Me”.

4. Congrats to Staunton, Virginia native Francis Collins, winner of the Medal of Freedom. I knew the Collins family well when I lived in the Valley, and always admired them.

5. Jessie and his little blind eyes.

Wide Stance

Happy day after Halloween. I went as a closeted gay republican Senator. The Findells were in fine form. My friend Chandra stopped in on her way to a show in Charlotte and we danced like crazy people.
