Eighty-One
Cleveland, Tennessee
1. On my way to Northport, Alabama, for the Kentuck Festival of the Arts . The best show of the year, my favorite show of the year, the most fun trip of the year.
2. You know about my dislike for the New York Yankees. This is based more on my dislike for George Steinbrenner’s smarmy ownership style than for any lack of respect for any particular players, or for their first-rate manager (and fellow cancer survivor) Joe Torre. So it made me smile when the well-respected Torre quit rather than take the Yankees offer of a $2.5M pay cut. Joe Torre is one of the good guys in baseball, the Yankees front office is the poison of baseball. Let the dismantling of the dynasty begin.
3. Check out this great local history blog by Sweet Briar College Professor Lynn Rainville: LoCoHistory. This is a very cool site if you’re interested in Charlottesville/Albemarle/Virginia history.
4. In case you’d forgotten, yes, I do have a birthday coming up. Since I know that you’re at a loss for gift ideas: A Hello Kitty AK-47 assult rifle! (From Boing Boing).
5. Interstate 81, southwest Virginia:

Torre is one of the best of the best, but the Yankees are evil. It will be fitting if they don’t even make the division series next year. Schadenfreude.
I’d love to see Torre manage the Orioles….and tell Peter Angelos to stick it. But now I’m just dreaming….
